News: Bacchanal Embrace Controlled Chaos On Forthcoming EP ‘DIY Lobotomy’

  • May 15, 2025
  • Simon Lucas-Hughes
Surrey-based trio Bacchanal are kicking off 2025 with a defiant scream rather than a whisper. Known for their potent blend of indie and grunge with flashes of prog and pop, the band are channeling their magnetic live energy into the studio with the upcoming release of DIY Lobotomy, a self-produced seven-track EP packed with grit, wit, and a chaotic sense of fun. Drawing on influences as eclectic as football legend Eric Cantona and the spinning blur of carousels, Bacchanal—made up of Longman, Jefferson, and Morris—have made a name for themselves as a band who thrive on unpredictability. Since their debut in 2021, they’ve earned a loyal grassroots following through relentless gigging and a refusal to fit into any one genre box. With DIY Lobotomy, the band trade extended jams for sharp, punchy tracks that still manage to pack in their signature complexity and bold personality. The EP swings from the anxious crescendo of opener ‘Face for Balaclava pt1’, to the jangly hooks of ‘Pillow Talk’, through to the moody intricacy of ‘SeeSaw’, all anchored by raw guitar fuzz, pounding drums, and melodic low-end grooves. Lyrically, Bacchanal continue to push boundaries—tackling everything from existential dread to car insurance with both candour and satire. “We originally wrote the record last year,” the band add, “but ended up scrapping it; the songs were just too long. So, we went back to square one, aiming for shorter tracks and added a few extra tunes to keep things interesting. The EP explores themes of regret, love, debauchery, insurance claims & daydreams.” Listen below:

Track: Caring Less Bring 90s Aesthetics On New Single ‘So Sick’

  • May 15, 2025
  • Simon Lucas-Hughes
Indie-rock up-and-comers Caring Less unveil the new single ‘So Sick’.  Arriving as a preview of their upcoming sophomore EP, the Philadelphia-based trio capture an essence of 90s alternative-rock with a twang of Phoebe Bridgers moments of Avril Lavigne. ‘So Sick’ builds through its jangly strummed guitars, tight drums and under the emotive vocals of front woman Sara Johnson to…

News: Former Labour MP, Brandes Releases Debut Album ‘The Distance Between Dreams’

  • May 13, 2025
  • Simon Lucas-Hughes
Former Labour MP and acclaimed author of The Last Train – A Family History of the Final Solution, Peter Bradley has made a striking and unexpected transition into music. Under the moniker Brandes, he has released his debut album, The Distance Between Dreams—a body of work that resonates with the same emotional weight, moral clarity, and historical consciousness that have marked his political and literary life. The album is an intimate and personal collection of songs exploring themes of love, loss, memory, and identity. It’s not a side project or a vanity release, but a fully realized artistic statement that reveals another dimension of Bradley’s identity. Through Brandes, he steps beyond the roles of legislator and historian, turning instead to music as a means of emotional and narrative expression. The name Brandes itself carries significant meaning. It is a family name lost during the Holocaust, reclaimed now as a tribute to the lives and stories erased during that time. For Bradley, adopting it is both an act of remembrance and a form of artistic reclamation. This deeply rooted sense of history and identity infuses every track on the album, lending the music a quiet gravity and authenticity. Musically, The Distance Between Dreams is steeped in the traditions of singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. Brandes’s voice is measured and introspective, and the production is spare, allowing the lyrics to take center stage. His early singles leaned toward folk and spoken word, but the full album introduces richer textures and broader influences. ‘From The Higher Ground’ for example, is one of the most politically charged tracks, combining indie-rock instrumentation with lyrical urgency. Each song is a meditation, whether on the fragility of relationships or the weight of inherited trauma. There’s a poetic sensibility at play, drawn from the same well that shaped his writing and public service. Yet this is not music of detachment—it’s personal, raw, and emotionally resonant. News: Peso The Misfit Shares New Single ‘New Age Love’

  • May 12, 2025
  • Simon Lucas-Hughes
Peso The Misfit shares the new single ‘New Age Love’. A smooth, swaggering blend of R&B and hip-hop akin to the likes of Drake and The Weeknd. The track leans into a playful sensuality, dripping with confidence while maintaining the laid-back cool that defines Peso’s signature style. Cinematic synths, off kilter beats and deep sub bass float under the half rapping half…

Track: Shawn Matthew Shares Explosive New Single ‘Work to the Beat’

  • May 12, 2025
  • Simon Lucas-Hughes
Shawn Matthew’s new single ‘Work to the Beat’ is a thunderous statement of intent, a gritty, genre-bending track that crashes through bass house, dubstep, and trap to create an exhilarating high-energy journey through explosive beats and sampling.  Released via 20k Leagues Records, it marks a sharp departure from the melodic house sound he was once known for, trading polished builds and euphoric drops for something far more raw, loud, and unfiltered. From the very start, ‘Work to the Beat’ introduces slamming kicks and sharp vocal samples before dropiing into an explosive, deb-step flavoured drop. Layered with fuzzy distorted bass and biting…
