Now in its 13th edition, Grimmfest has firmly cemented its place on the UK horror film festival circuit. This year the festival returns to its home at Odeon Great Northern in Manchester between, 7-10 October. However, once again, it’s a little different this time round. The in-person fun will be followed by an online version a week later. As usual, there are an impressive array of new features from around the world, short films, talks and parties.

Some of the highlights include:

The Sadness

The city of Taipei suddenly erupts into bloody chaos as ordinary people are compulsively driven to enact the cruelest and ghastly things they can imagine. Murder, torture, and mutilation are only the beginning…A young couple is pushed to the limits of sanity as they try to reunite amid the violence and depravity. The age of civility and order is no more. There is only “The Sadness”.

Midnight

Kyung-mi, a girl with hearing impairment lives with her mother. Working at the customer call center, one day she storms out of an unpleasant dinner with the client and drives home after she picks up her mother. Meanwhile, the murderer Do-sik spots Kyung-mi’s mother waiting for her daughter who went to park her car but changes his target when another girl So-jung passes him by talking on the phone. So-jung gets stabbed by Do-sik in the back alley and is found by Kyung-mi, who ends up becoming Do-sik’s new prey.

The Righteous

A burdened man feels the wrath of a vengeful God after he and his wife are visited by a mysterious stranger.

Night Drive

Los Angeles cab driver Russell is having a tough time; his life has taken a few wrong turns; things haven’t gone to plan and he’s not in a good place. But a chance pick-up of an unfathomable passenger could be about to change everything. When Charlotte gets in his car, what starts out as a normal fare quickly takes a dark turn and spins Russell’s world on its head. And then things get even weirder and deadlier, and there’s shocks and splatters galore.

We’re All Going to The World’s Fair

Say it three times into your computer camera. Prick your finger, draw some blood and smear it on the screen. Now press play on the video. They say that once you’ve seen it, the changes begin…

In a small town, a shy and isolated teenage girl becomes immersed in an online role-playing game.

The Beta Test

Shortly before his wedding, ruthless talent agent, Jordan (Jim Cummings) receives a mysterious envelope offering no-strings-attached sex with a stranger in a hotel room. Initially amused, then intrigued, he becomes obsessed by the idea of a secret erotic adventure and impulsively accepts. But will he regret his choices when his meticulous, superficial world threatens to collapse under the weight of his burgeoning lies?
