Boney M featuring Maizie Williams are currently touring Australia on their Final Curtain Tour, and Backseat Mafia was on hand to catch the Sydney show at the Enmore Theatre.
Opening up for Boney M was singer songwriter Jeremy Costa, whose soulful set got the crowd in the mood.
Formed in 1974 by Frank Farian, Boney M emerged as one of the defining acts of the disco era, blending pop, funk and reggae into a sound that travelled globally with rare ease. Their catalogue quickly moved beyond chart success, embedding itself into popular culture through songs that have remained in constant rotation for decades.
With over 100 million records sold worldwide and multiple international number one singles, the group’s impact has proven unusually durable. Tracks like Rasputin, Daddy Cool, Rivers of Babylon and Brown Girl in the Ring have continued to resurface across generations, maintaining their immediacy through simplicity, rhythm and instantly recognisable hooks.
This tour serves as a celebration of a catalogue that has outlived the era that first defined it and continues to connect in a live setting.
