One of punk rock’s original bands came to play The Forum as part of RISING Melbourne and put in a performance that was full of energy, fun and full of hits that left a packed house buzzing. The Damned‘s presence was personified by lead singer, and only constant member during its 45+ years history, Dave Vanian commanded attention from the get-go as he caroused around the stage. His haunting vocals and Captain Sensible’s blistering guitar riffs added an intense edge to a really tight performance.
Age was irrelevant as The Damned tore through their setlist with vigor. Finishing with two encores that included crowd-favourites “Eloise”, “New Rose” and “Smash It Up” which had the crowd dacning and singing along. Their timeless music and captivating stage presence solidified The Damned’s status as punk pioneers.
