Live Review + Gallery: CAVALERA – Roseland Theater – Portland, Oregon 2025.02.27

Brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, founding members of the legendary Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, are currently on the Third World Trilogy tour, celebrating the band’s first three albums: Schizophrenia, Bestial Devastation, and Morbid Visions. Each night, their setlist features fan favorites while showcasing much of 1987’s Schizophrenia. The tour is making its way through North America and stopped this past Thursday at Portland’s Roseland Theater.

Red lights flooded the stage as CAVALERA took the stage, Ian taking his spot sitting elevated behind his drum kit while brother Max took his spot front and center. Fans didn’t have to wait long before being hit with heavy drum beats and fast-paced guitar riffs as the band tore through the first three songs from Schizophrenia. The crowd erupted, cheering and roaring along to Max’s deep growls as the music thundered through the theater. In the center of the floor, a giant circle pit opened up, with fans shoving and slamming into each other in a frenzy. After each song, the cheers grew louder as fans threw up their horns in appreciation, thrilled to hear the Cavalera’s play the early songs that have made Sepultura beloved for nearly 40 years.

The band closed out the evening with a melody of hard hitting tracks, including a Black Magic, Biotech is Godzilla and Bestial Devastation. The fans were electric all night, taking in and appreciating ever moment of this celebration of these defining albums. The “Third World Trilogy” tour continues now through the end of March before finishing up on March 30th in Phoenix, Arizona. CAVALERA has released new full re-recordings of ‘Schizophrenia’, ‘Bestial Devastation’ and ‘Morbid Visions’, these can be found on all major streaming platforms.
