Live Review: K.Flay – Showbox SoDo – Seattle, Wa – 23.06.2023

Seattle was on fire this past Friday evening as K.Flay took the stage at the iconic Showbox SoDo. With a mixture of rock, hip-hop and electronic-pop music, K.Flay delivered a mesmerizing performance, she had the crowd in the palm of her hand from the opening beat. The audience hanging on every note, were not disappointed by the performance K.Flay put on.

K.Flay exuded remarkable confidence on stage, delivering high-energy performances that commanded the crowd’s attention. She had an impressive level of control over the audience, effortlessly drawing them in and creating a sense of vulnerability. During the concert, she shared a deeply personal experience from late last year when she was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis, a condition that has left her permanently deaf in her right ear. She candidly explained how this diagnosis has affected not only her music but also her sense of balance, resulting in ongoing equilibrium issues.

To be back on stage not even a year later is truly inspiring and to seem to not even skip a breath is amazing. K.Flay was full of energy, running back and forth on the stage at The Showbox. She got the crowd involved, inviting them to sing along to the relatable lyrics of her song Weirdo. I also have to mention her impressive rapping skills, which she showcased in between the catchy choruses she sang beautifully. With songs Four Letter Word the flow can be described as a start-and-stop motion, with well-timed pauses that match the backing beat of the music. It then picks up speed, to a fever pitch. I personally really enjoyed her mash up of Rage Against the Machine’s Bulls on Parade with her own Blood in the Cut.

K.Flay is currently on a co-headlining North American tour with grandson, and they have upcoming East Coast dates in August. Additionally, K.Flay will be performing in Europe during September and October. Dates and tickets can be found on K.Flay‘s website. You can pre-order upcoming album Mono, with the singles Raw Raw and Shy currently available to stream on all major platforms.
