Live Review: UB40 featuring Ali Campbell kick off Australian tour at City Hall, Hobart

Hosted by The Hour Group and Vandemonium Touring, reggae royalty, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, kicked off their Australian tour on Friday night with a gig in Australia’s southernmost capital city, Hobart.

Whilst the band only retains Ali Campbell from the original UB40 lineup, the gathered musicians who go to make up the band turned in a stellar performance, running through much of their greatest hits catalogue while introducing a number of tracks from their latest album, Unprecedented.

Lead singer, Ali Campbell has said “Astro (fellow original member) heartbreakingly passed just two weeks after we’d finished the final mixes, so this is a way of keeping his memory alive“.

This album is now more poignant and special than either of us could have imagined when we were recording it“.

UB40 featuring Ali Campbell were ably supported by local reggae heroes, Boil Up, who well-and-truly got the off-beat vibes kicking in readiness for the main act to follow.

Prior to this, local melodic rock band, Baby Lemur began proceedings with a set that caught many an early-punters ear.
