Young Brew, the North Carolina MC has released his new single, Own. Its a joint production by Raleigh’s Hydro Beatz and Montreal’s Yung Drilla, and is hosted by Atlanta DJ Lil Keem. Asked to describe the sentiment behind the track, Young Brew says that Own is about feeling “the only thing that’s stopping you or holding you back in life is you, so it’s gonna take you to create the changes you want in your life.”
Dressed up in this swirling, almost eerie synth backing, there’s this sprawling percussion over the back of it, that stutters and squirms throughout almost. Over the top Young Brew lays down his rhymes, almost half sung as he demonstrates his RnB chops, particularly in the chorus.
