Track: Mercury nominee’s Young Fathers release new single, Soon Come Soon

When this year’s Mercury nominations were announced, I don’t think anybody would have picked Young Fathers out as the winner. But that’s the beauty of the Mercurys. They don’t always pick the obvious choice, and often go for something a little more innovative and leftfield. But win they did with album ‘DEAD’. It brought the band a whole new audience, and took them into the album chart for the first time since its release.

The band consist of Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and ‘G’ Hastings, and they all hail from Edinburgh. And let’s face it, there just isn’t enough Scottish hip-hip around. But what these guys do is so much more than just hip-hop. They mix the classic sounds that come from the amazing 80s pioneers such as Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, and mix it up with a more electronic sound.

Not wanting to waste any time after their new found success, the boys release this new track ‘Soon Come Soon’, and it doesn’t disappoint. It sticks close to the sound they invented and brought to life on their previous album and mixtapes. Add a super catchy chorus, an orchestral breakdown, and of course a killer baseline that could rumble even the most modest of sound systems, and that’s the new track in nutshell.
