Ten years after Asleep In The Machine established Bootleg Rascal as one of Australia’s most distinctive independent acts, the Gold Coast duo are taking the landmark record back on the road. Carlos Lara and Jimmy Young have announced a 13-date national tour celebrating the anniversary of their acclaimed debut album, revisiting the songs that launched their career while showcasing the evolution of a band that has never stood still.
Running from September through November, the tour will reach both metropolitan and regional centres, with fans treated to performances of Asleep In The Machine favourites alongside material from the duo’s 2025 self-titled fourth album and a catalogue that has consistently blurred the lines between indie rock, hip-hop, dub, electronica and reggae.
Coinciding with the tour is the announcement of a deluxe edition of Asleep In The Machine, arriving on August 12. The expanded release includes several previously unavailable recordings, among them Spanish-language versions of Drop The Gun and Bones N Bricks, an acoustic take on the title track and I’d Do Anything, which until now has only been available on vinyl. Leading the release is Baja El Arma, a Spanish reinterpretation of Drop The Gun that reconnects frontman Carlos Lara with his heritage while giving one of the band’s best-loved songs an entirely new perspective.
Released in 2016, Asleep In The Machine proved to be the breakthrough moment for Bootleg Rascal. The album amassed more than 35 million streams across Spotify and Apple Music, while the band’s memorable Like A Version performance of the title track introduced their genre-defying sound to an even wider audience. Its fusion of infectious grooves, thoughtful songwriting and laid-back coastal energy quickly became a defining blueprint for the duo’s career.
Since forming in 2012, Bootleg Rascal have steadily built one of Australia’s most loyal independent followings. Across four studio albums and relentless touring throughout Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the United States, they have developed a reputation for vibrant live performances that effortlessly weave together multiple genres without ever feeling forced.
Rather than simply revisiting the past, the Asleep In The Machine anniversary tour celebrates a band that continues to evolve while acknowledging the record that first set everything in motion. A decade later, those songs remain every bit as vibrant as when they first emerged.
