News: Converge bring rare Jane Doe anniversary performance to Melbourne’s inaugural Lucidity Festival

Melbourne is getting a new heavy music festival, and it’s coming out swinging. Lucidity makes its debut at Melbourne Pavilion on Saturday 13 March 2027, with metalcore pioneers Converge leading a formidable lineup of international and Australian acts.

The headline attraction is a rare performance of Converge’s landmark 2001 album Jane Doe in its entirety. Celebrating the record’s 25th anniversary, the Massachusetts band will return to Australia for the first time since 2019 to perform an album that helped rewrite the rules of metalcore. They’ve only played Jane Doe in full twice before, making this a particularly significant booking.

Belgian post-black metal outfit Oathbreaker will make their southern hemisphere debut with an exclusive performance celebrating 10 years of their acclaimed album Rheia. Following their 2018 hiatus and 2026 reunion, the band’s appearance adds another heavyweight anniversary to the bill.

Texas experimental metal punks Portrayal of Guilt will bring material from their 2026 record …Beginning of The End, while Belgian black metal trio Wiegedood return to Australia for the first time since 2018.

Australia’s underground is well represented too. Powerviolence veterans Extortion will arrive with a new album on the horizon, while Melbourne’s The Broderick reunite to mark 15 years of their cult debut Free To Rot, Free of Sin. Ends in Tragedy, Blind Girls, Isua and Melting complete a lineup that digs deep into the heavier corners of punk, hardcore and metal.

Lucidity isn’t stopping at the stage. The festival will feature Homewrecker Records, a pop-up record store designed by artist Callum Preston, alongside live artist Q&As hosted by the Oblivious Maximus podcast, market stalls and food trucks.

With just 2,000 tickets available, Lucidity is keeping things deliberately intimate. For a festival built around rare performances, landmark albums and some of extreme music’s most uncompromising names, its first edition is already shaping up as a serious proposition.
