In a captivating display of her musical prowess, Cork-based singer-songwriter Sarah Hickey embarks on a promising journey leading up to her highly anticipated debut album with the release of her latest single, ‘Doesn’t Fit.’

Not only showcasing Hickey’s introspective vocals, the track also weaves a delicate tapestry of acoustic chords and a mellifluous electric guitar line, setting the tone for her forthcoming musical endeavor.

Speaking about the new single, Sarah shares:

“The song ‘Doesn’t Fit’ is about feeling out of place and like nothing makes sense.  The chorus came to me when I sat down to write last Autumn and when I listened back some time later I wrote the verses.  They felt like a stream of consciousness so it felt very natural to write the song and when recording it with a band it fell together naturally too.  I recorded this song in a house by the sea in Cork last November with ‘Catalyst’.  They have been such a wonderful team to work with and I feel very close to the songs when recording.  The whole experience was really beautiful and I feel very lucky spending my time making music and working with other like minded people.  The cover art I painted for the song is a visual representation of the lyrical content and overall feel of the song.  I wanted to include vague and uncertain elements and a colour palette that matches the way I see the song.”

From the opening notes, ‘Doesn’t Fit’ envelops listeners in a somber ambiance, gradually building around Hickey’s heartfelt vocals. The instrumentation gracefully follows suit, with evocative and steady drums complementing the intensifying emotions conveyed through her lyrics. As the track reaches its climax, it transforms into a mesmerizing symphony of instruments, while Hickey’s genuine voice remains a steadfast anchor amidst the orchestrated chaos, culminating in a breathtaking finale.

Over the past year, Hickey has honed her musical abilities in the recording studio, nurturing her original compositions with meticulous care. ‘Doesn’t Fit’ serves as a testament to her unwavering commitment and offers a glimpse into the fruits of her labor. Through her lyrics and captivating performances, Hickey showcases a quietly restrained power as an emotional being, drawing listeners into her world.

Not limited to music alone, Hickey expresses herself through painting, infusing her work with a unique artistic depth. She brings her paintings to life on her album covers, skillfully merging visual art with music, a testament to her creative control and multifaceted talent.

Having already captivated audiences with recent performances in renowned venues across Ireland, Hickey’s musical journey has helped shape and refine her sound. Collaborating with other artists has played a pivotal role in her artistic development, allowing her to explore new facets of her craft.

As the release of her debut album looms on the horizon, music enthusiasts eagerly await the next chapter from this exciting emerging artist. Sarah Hickey’s fusion of emotive storytelling, sincere performances, and her innate ability to connect with listeners promises a musical experience that will leave an indelible mark on the industry. Stay tuned for more from this rising star.
