News: Deicide bring four decades of death metal to Australia in 2027

Florida death metal veterans Deicide are heading back to Australia for the first time since 2006, announcing a five-date tour for January and February 2027. The run takes in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney, ending with a show at Manning Bar on 5 February.

Formed in Tampa in 1987 by vocalist and bassist Glen Benton and drummer Steve Asheim, Deicide emerged from Florida’s burgeoning death metal scene with a sound built on relentless drumming, heavily distorted guitars and Benton’s unmistakable guttural vocals. Their self-titled 1990 debut and its 1992 follow-up, Legion, helped establish the blueprint for a genre that was rapidly gaining ground beyond the underground.

Deicide have never been particularly interested in compromise. Their confrontational lyrics, anti-religious imagery and abrasive sound have attracted controversy throughout their career, but also secured them a devoted following. With twelve studio albums to their name, they remain one of death metal’s most recognisable acts, more than three decades after their debut.

The band are also credited as the second-best-selling death metal act of the SoundScan era, an achievement that speaks to their enduring appeal in a genre that has rarely troubled the mainstream.

For Australian fans, the wait has been a long one. More than two decades have passed since Deicide last toured the country, making these five shows a rare opportunity to catch one of Florida death metal’s founding forces back on local stages.
