East London’s Between Suns return with ‘My Kinda Devil’.
A brooding and restless new single that draws together driving alternative-rock, psychedelic textures, prog-rock undertones and and a post-punk undertone thanks to the subtle violin flourishes, the track showcases the bands musical maturity through atmosphere and intensity. Recorded at Livingston Studios with acclaimed producer Nick Tauber (Thin Lizzy, UFO), the track offers a compelling introduction to the band’s layered, tapestry-like approach to songwriting. Immersive and otherworldly yet bringing a raw sense of energy and grit.
At the heart of the bands sound is the poetic storytelling and soaring vocal presence of French singer Nausciaä. Her operatic delivery moves from ferocious power to moments of exposed vulnerability, giving the track a dramatic quality that sits naturally alongside its darker subject matter. Drawing on modern theatrical rock and post-punk as well as 1970s psychedelic rock and prog, Between Suns create something that feels deliberately difficult to pin down, balancing intensity with atmosphere and melody.
“My Kinda Devil is loosely inspired by a Michael Moorcock book called ‘the war hound and the world’s pain’, recounting the story of mercenary Ulrich Von Beck who strikes a bargain with Lucifer during the Thirty Years’ War to find the Holy Grail, in exchange for his soul.
The song was written around the intro bass line, and evolved into a ‘short story’ and a bit of a journey. Was the second song recorded at Livingston studios with Nick Tauber (long time supporter and collaborator of the band). This song, like most of the upcoming album, was written during lockdown.”
That sense of narrative is reflected in the arrangement, with the song developing from its opening bass line into something more expansive and unpredictable. The interplay between Paul Lisak’s guitar work, Sofia Lisak’s violin and the rhythm section gives the track a fluid quality, while Illia Lisak’s bass and cello work adds further depth to the band’s already richly textured sound. Reuben Rost’s drums provide the momentum, keeping the track grounded as its layers build and shift.
The result is a song that captures the contrast at the centre of Between Suns’ music. Darkness and urgency sit alongside beauty, harmony and restraint, while Nausciaä’s voice provides a powerful focal point within the band’s widescreen arrangements.
That combination has helped Between Suns build a growing following across London, with their live shows developing a reputation for intensity and unpredictability. With ‘My Kinda Devil’ offering another glimpse into the material shaped during lockdown and recorded with Tauber at Livingston Studios, the band are heading into the final months of 2026 with plenty of momentum.
The band will play Paper Dress Vintage in London on 2 October 2026 before returning to the capital for a show at Strongroom on 11 December.
