News: GAYC/DC Announce First Australian Tour

There are tribute bands, and then there are concepts so pointed they end up rewriting the rules they started with. GAYC/DC sit comfortably in the second category. Taking the catalogue of AC/DC and running it through unapologetic queer celebration sounds like a novelty pitch. Then the band hits the first riff and the idea stops being theoretical.

Founded by Christopher Freeman of Pansy Division alongside drummer Brian Welch, GAYC/DC have built something that earns respect. Beneath the glitter and the wink is a band that treats the source material with care, because that’s the only way this works. The music lands hard, the hooks are intact, and the jokes don’t undercut the playing.

That balance is clear in their rewrites. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap becomes Dirty Dudes (Done Dirt Cheap) without losing its bite, while Gay Boy Boogie reimagines Bad Boy Boogie as a knowing nod to Twisted Sister, complete with approval from Dee Snider. Even Highway to Hell comes with heavyweight cameos from Johnny Martin, John Bush and dUg Pinnick, a reminder that the wider rock world is very much in on the fun.

For their first Australian tour, the band will take this show into intimate rooms across six cities, favouring sweat and proximity over polish. Rounded out by Glen Pavan, Topher Ruby and Steve McKnight, the live setup leans into immediacy, where the message lands as clearly as the music.
