News: Ivelisse del Carmen Returns with New Single ‘An Ocean in Between’

London-based Puerto Rican singer-songwriter releases Ivelisse del Carmen her first track in English, ‘An Ocean in Between’ – a pop led track that marks her first official release performed in English. The track represents a significant shift for the London-based artist, as she embraces a broader linguistic and stylistic reach, bringing an accessible radio friendly sound while maintaining the Latin roots that have long defined her sound.

Combining stylistic subtle acoustic instrumentation with light, melodic pop elements and electronic drums and jiving electric guitar, An Ocean in Between represents a glittering, BBC Radio 2 styled pop sound.Laced with rhythmic Spanish guitar, instantly repeatable melodies, and an undercurrent of vulnerability, the single explores the ambiguity of emotional connection with both charm and confidence.

“‘An Ocean in Between’ is about that space in a connection where you’re already emotionally involved, caught up in the daydream, but still unsure of what it really means or where it’s going,” Ivelisse explains. “I wanted it to feel like the moment in the photo that inspired it—sweet, silly, full of possibility. I wanted it to make people dance.”

The single draws sonic references from Latin America and Spain, while integrating indie-pop sensibilities, showcasing Ivelisse’s ongoing refusal to be confined by genre. Her classically trained soprano, expressive and agile, remains a central feature, bringing warmth and emotional nuance to the track’s hopeful tone.
