José González is heading back to the Sydney Opera House, and this time he’s swapping the Concert Hall for the open air.
The Swedish indie-folk favourite will take over the Opera House Forecourt on Saturday 27 February 2027, bringing his intricate guitar work and unmistakable vocals to one of Sydney’s most spectacular outdoor stages.
Armed with little more than an acoustic guitar, González will revisit favourites including Heartbeats and Crosses, alongside material from his fifth studio album, Against the Dying of the Light, released in March 2026.
The new record finds González turning his attention to technology, human connection and the increasingly complicated business of being human. It’s familiar territory for a songwriter who has spent more than two decades proving that a quiet voice and a guitar can make a considerable impact.
Since breaking through with his 2003 debut Veneer, González has built a devoted international following with his understated mix of folk, classical guitar and Latin American influences. His catalogue also includes In Our Nature, Vestiges & Claws and Local Valley, alongside his work with Swedish band Junip.
Sydney audiences are no strangers to his appeal. González has already sold out six Concert Hall performances at the Opera House, including three during Vivid LIVE in 2023. His upcoming Forecourt appearance marks his first performance at the venue since then and his first Australian visit since 2024.
This time, the setting is considerably bigger. With Sydney Harbour as the backdrop and a catalogue that includes some of indie folk’s most enduring songs, González looks set to prove once again that he doesn’t need a full band to command a crowd.
José González performs at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Saturday 27 February 2027.
