News: Kaiser Chiefs Announce First Australian Tour in Over a Decade

Kaiser Chiefs

It’s been over a decade since Kaiser Chiefs last set foot on Australian soil. Now, the Leeds indie titans are making their long-awaited return, armed with the razor-sharp riffs and anthemic hooks of their seminal debut Employment, which turns 20 this year.

The band will bring their celebratory tour Down Under this November, kicking off at Perth’s RAC Arena (Nov 23), before hitting Festival Hall in Melbourne (Nov 25), Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion (Nov 27), and wrapping at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall (Nov 28). The shows promise a full-throttle run-through of the album that soundtracked a thousand student discos — from the sardonic swagger of ‘Everyday I Love You Less and Less’ to the chaos-inducing ‘I Predict A Riot’.

Released in 2005, Employment was the calling card that launched the Kaiser Chiefs into the indie stratosphere. With over 2.1 million copies sold and a 17-month run in the UK Top 40, it’s not just a time capsule of post-Britpop defiance — it’s a record that reshaped mid-2000s British rock.

Ricky Wilson and co. have spent the last two decades fine-tuning their craft across arena tours and festival main stages, chalking up two UK No. 1 albums, a stack of Top 40 hits (including chart-topper ‘Ruby’), and tour spots with U2 and the Foo Fighters. The Employment reissue, landing July 18, is the cherry on top of one of British indie’s most enduring legacies.
