Kristin Hersh will return to Australia this November for a series of intimate headline shows supporting forthcoming album Sugar On Blackstone, due September 18 via Fire Records.
For more than four decades, Hersh has occupied a singular place within alternative music, both through Throwing Muses and her solo work, writing songs that feel emotionally raw without ever tipping into sentimentality. Her performances remain remarkably direct: just voice, guitar and the uncomfortable emotional honesty that has defined her work since the 1980s.
Following 2023’s Clear Pond Road, the new album reportedly moves through themes of memory, mortality, survival and connection, drawing heavily on personal relationships and the strange way certain sounds or places can suddenly collapse time entirely. New single Dark-Eyed Junco captures that atmosphere perfectly, pairing melodic restraint with sharply autobiographical writing.
Recorded at Stable Sound Studios, Sugar On Blackstone also reunites Hersh with longtime collaborators 50FOOTWAVE drummer Rob Ahlers and Throwing Muses cellist Pete Harvey, further reinforcing the sense of creative continuity running through the project.
