News: Saint Etienne Announce Final Australian And New Zealand Tour

Saint Etienne have announced that they will return to Australia and New Zealand one final time this November and December, bringing an end to a career that has quietly shaped British pop for more than three decades.

The farewell tour follows the release of 2025’s International, which became the trio’s final studio album and saw the band return to the UK Top 10. Rather than framing the record as a grand farewell statement, International felt like another reminder of what Saint Etienne have always done best: blending pop, dance music, indie and club culture into something uniquely their own.

Formed in 1990 by Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, and completed by vocalist Sarah Cracknell the following year, Saint Etienne arrived with a fresh take on British pop history. Their breakthrough cover of Only Love Can Break Your Heart transformed a folk classic into a dancefloor favourite, while albums like Foxbase Alpha and So Tough established them as one of the defining voices of 1990s British music.

Across the years, songs including Nothing Can Stop Us, You’re In A Bad Way, He’s On The Phone and Spring demonstrated a rare ability to make sophisticated pop music feel effortless. Their records drew equally from Northern soul, indie-pop, house music and classic British songwriting without ever sounding nostalgic or trapped by influence.

For Australian and New Zealand audiences, these shows offer a final opportunity to experience a band whose influence often outweighs their commercial profile. Saint Etienne’s catalogue has aged remarkably well because it was never chasing trends in the first place. Instead, it captured a particular way of seeing pop music: curious, literate and deeply in love with melody.
