Alternative rock stalwart Kristin Hersh returns to Australia this November, bringing songs from her new album Sugar On Blackstone alongside favourites spanning four decades of uncompromising songwriting. Fresh from an extensive UK and European tour, the Throwing Muses frontwoman will play shows across the country, joined by a line-up of Australian artists.

Adding to the tour’s appeal, a stellar line-up of Australian artists will join Hersh across the national dates. Grace Mitchell will support both Melbourne shows, while Kellie Lloyd joins the Sydney performance, Sarah Irvine supports in Brisbane, Naomi Keytein Adelaide, and Sascha Ion in Perth.

As the driving force behind Throwing Muses, Hersh helped reshape American alternative rock in the 1980s with fractured melodies, unpredictable rhythms and fiercely personal lyrics. Her subsequent solo career and work with 50FOOTWAVE have cemented her reputation as an artist who has never been particularly interested in following convention.

Her latest album, Sugar On Blackstone, turns its attention to grief, displacement and the persistence of memory. Drawing on her childhood in Providence, Rhode Island, the record explores the emotional weight of returning to familiar places transformed by loss and time. Recorded with longtime collaborators Rob Ahlers and Pete Harvey, it balances stripped-back intimacy with moments of raw intensity.

Four decades into her career, Hersh remains a compelling and unpredictable voice in alternative music. Her November tour offers Australian audiences another chance to experience a songwriter who continues to challenge herself rather than simply revisit the past.

Tickets are on sale now through Troubadour Presents.
