Fresh from tearing up stages across the UK, Croydon’s own genre-bending sensation Lola Young is headed to Eora/Sydney’s iconic Metro Theatre on 8 January 2025, as part of her inaugural Australia tour. A true dynamo with a knack for flipping the script, Lola’s live performances are a dazzling cocktail of slow-burn soul, thrash-and-trash indie, and razor-sharp banter. It’s no wonder she’s already an NME cover star and one of Britain’s most electrifying emerging voices.
Lola’s latest album, This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway, has been lauded as “a winningly messy mix of zingers and vulnerability.” With 11 tracks of raw, relatable storytelling, it’s a record that swings effortlessly between empowerment and heartbreak, capturing the chaos of modern life with brutal honesty. It’s music that hits you where it hurts and leaves you wanting more.
Snoop Dog, SZA, Lily Allen and Childish Gambino are fans and she is co-managed by Nick Shymansky, who was Amy Winehouse’s manager and Nick Huggett who previously managed Adele.
Young has spoken openly about living with schizoaffective disorder, a topic she doesn’t shy away from. In a recent interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, she called it her “superpower,” revealing how her manic episodes often fuel bursts of creativity. “When I’m manic, I can write a song in like five minutes,” she said, reframing what many see as a challenge into a unique creative force. It’s this raw honesty, both in conversation and in her music, that sets Young apart as an artist unafraid to embrace every facet of herself.
After lighting up the Lost Paradise, Beyond the Valley and Wildlands festivals, her Metro Theatre gig promises an intimate yet electric showcase of what makes Lola tick.
