News: Matz Patrick Shares The Delicate New Single ‘augustine’

London indie-folk riser Matz Patrick is continuing his steady rise with the release of his heartfelt new single, ‘augustine’.

Building on the intimate songwriting that has quickly become his signature, ‘augustine’ is an immediately absorbing listen. Rich acoustic textures, subtle picked banjo and delicate piano establish an inviting sense of warmth from the outset, while gentle guitar plucks are enveloped by shimmering synth pads and expansive keys. As the track progresses, rich pedal steel adds to the striking emotional depth, bringing a sound comparable to early Bon Iver.

Patrick’s understated vocal performance sits at the heart of the song, delivered with a captivating intimacy and tenderness that gives the track its emotional sincerity. As the arrangement gradually unfolds, steady percussion provides a gentle pulse beneath sweeping string lines that beautifully counter the lead melodies.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Matz Patrick explains: “‘augustine’ is about that strange place after a breakup where someone’s gone but their presence is louder than ever. It’s in the kitchen, in the sheets, in a football shirt across the room. I wanted it to feel less like a haunting and more like a warmth that won’t leave. I called it ‘augustine’ because it’s my favourite name. There’s something nostalgic about it, like a fading book you’d find on a shelf.”

The track further showcases Patrick’s gift for translating deeply personal emotions into evocative, universally relatable songwriting. Rather than dwelling in heartbreak, ‘augustine’ reflects on the lingering comfort and quiet melancholy left behind after love has faded, capturing those everyday moments where memory becomes almost tangible.

Originally from North Carolina and now based in London, Matz Patrick draws heavily on the landscapes and emotional honesty of his upbringing to shape his introspective brand of indie folk. Since making his debut in July 2025 with ‘carolina blue’, he has amassed more than 60,000 streams while steadily building momentum through a string of warmly received releases.

His debut EP, Sweet Reminder, alongside its accompanying singles, earned support from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio UK and US, and multiple Spotify editorial playlists, establishing Patrick as one of the emerging voices to watch within the UK’s indie-folk scene.

Fresh from a milestone headline performance and armed with one of his most emotionally resonant releases to date, ‘augustine’ marks another confident step forward for an artist whose thoughtful songwriting and organic sound continue to find an ever-growing audience.
