For the first time since 2009, UK alternative rock mainstays Maxïmo Park are heading back to Australia. This April, the Newcastle trio will mark two decades since the release of their Mercury Prize-nominated debut, A Certain Trigger, with a run of anniversary shows celebrating twenty years of sharp riffs, restless energy and literate indie pop.

The band will perform tracks from A Certain Trigger alongside favourites from their eight-album career, spanning from Our Earthly Pleasures to 2024’s Stream of Life. Frontman Paul Smith describes the tour as “a big celebration, giving a fresh perspective to A Certain Trigger. Our first album remains dear to so many people… it’s thrilling to revisit those songs with the same exhilaration we felt at the beginning.”

Released in 2005, A Certain Trigger launched Maxïmo Park into the heart of the UK’s mid-2000s indie explosion, producing enduring singles like Apply Some Pressure, Graffiti and Going Missing. Fusing punk urgency, pop craftsmanship and wry lyrical detail, the record became a touchstone for a generation of fans raised on dancefloor-ready guitars and emotional candour.

Still fronted by Smith, with Duncan Lloyd and Tom English completing the line-up, the band remain one of the UK’s most quietly consistent indie acts. This 2026 tour offers Australian fans a rare chance to see a group that helped define an era return to the stage with both reflection and renewed intent.
