News: New York’s Brett Badner Shares New Single ‘where did summer go?’

New York-based pop artist, songwriter and producer Brett Badner captures the bittersweet feeling of summer slipping away on his latest single, ‘where did summer go?’, a nostalgic yet energetic pop track that reflects on fleeting moments, fading memories and the desire to hold on to something special just a little longer.

Blending warm guitar textures with polished pop production and emotionally honest songwriting, the track explores the strange passage of time that turns a seemingly endless summer into a distant memory almost overnight. Balancing introspective themes with the immediate appeal of guitar-driven pop, Badner delivers a sound that will resonate with fans of Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Niall Horan, Conan Gray and Lauv.

At the heart of the single is a familiar question that takes on a deeper meaning as the seasons change. As Badner explains, “where did summer go? is about nostalgia and fleeting moments—the feeling of wanting time to slow down as something perfect slips away.”

The inspiration arrived in early August, when Badner found himself sitting on the edge of his bed with a guitar, already reluctant to let summer come to an end. Associated with freedom, warmth, beach days and short-lived romance, the season holds a particular significance for the artist. As the days began to pass, one thought continued to occupy his mind: where did summer go?

That simple question became the foundation for the track, transforming a personal moment of reflection into a song about the universal experience of watching time move on. What began as an intimate acoustic idea gradually developed into a fuller pop arrangement, drawing influence from the polished, guitar-led production associated with hitmakers such as Max Martin and Ryan Tedder.

In keeping with Badner’s independent approach, the single was created entirely from his bedroom, with the artist taking responsibility for every stage of the process. From writing and producing to recording, mixing and mastering, he shaped ‘where did summer go?’ himself, expanding the original acoustic demo into a layered production featuring acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, percussion and synth pads.

The result marks a subtle evolution in Badner’s songwriting, with a greater focus on memory, the passage of time and the small emotional details that give fleeting experiences their lasting significance. Rather than simply celebrating the carefree spirit of summer, the track turns its attention to what remains when the season ends, capturing the melancholy of realising that a chapter you never wanted to close has already become part of the past.

With ‘where did summer go?’, Badner channels a deeply personal moment into an accessible pop song that speaks to a universal feeling. Nostalgic without losing its energy, the single serves as a reminder that sometimes the moments we wish could last forever are the ones we appreciate most once they’re gone.
