Pond are bringing Terrestrials home. Fresh from a US headline run that included dates with Djo, the Fremantle psych-rock mainstays have announced an Australian tour for December, taking their new live show through Fremantle, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The run begins on home turf at Freo Social on December 5, where Automatic will join the bill, before Pond head east to Brisbane’s The Triffid on December 17, Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on December 18 and Sydney’s Metro Theatre on December 19. Further supports are still to be announced.
The shows arrive behind the band’s 11th album, Terrestrials, another restless turn from a group that has spent more than 15 years refusing to sit comfortably inside psychedelic rock. This time, Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry and James Ireland pull post-punk and new wave into the mix, while turning their attention towards Australia and a world that frequently appears to be coming loose at the bolts.

Pond’s story stretches back to Fremantle in 2010, with 2013’s Beard, Wives, Denim helping propel a loose collective of friends into an internationally touring band. Eleven albums later, they’ve shared stages with the Flaming Lips, Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys, while appearing at festivals including Glastonbury and Coachella.
But Pond have always made the most sense when there’s a stage beneath them. With Allbrook an unpredictable presence at the centre and a completely new live show promised for the Terrestrials run, December offers Australian audiences the chance to see where one of the country’s most enduringly strange rock bands has wandered next.
