Thirty years, six albums and countless punishing live shows. Wollongong metal veterans Segression are still standing, and they’re marking three decades of heavy music with their very own festival.
The inaugural SEG FEST takes over Waves in Wollongong on Saturday 15 May 2027, bringing together some of Australia’s most enduring heavy acts alongside a new generation of bands ready to make their mark.
Formed in 1996, Segression have spent three decades carving out a place in Australian metal, sharing stages with Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Pantera, Machine Head, Soulfly and Fear Factory along the way. There have been hiatuses, lineup changes and plenty of upheaval, but the band’s appetite for heavy riffs remains intact.
Rather than settle for a straightforward anniversary gig, Segression are going bigger. Joining them at SEG FEST are Australian hardcore veterans Toe To Toe and metal heavyweights Mortality, alongside Our Last Enemy, Deprivation and Topnovil.
Representing the newer wave of Australian heavy music are PistonFist, Backhand, The Witching Hour and Skarmekal, rounding out a lineup that stretches across generations and genres.
With nine hours of music on one stage, SEG FEST is both a celebration of Segression’s staying power and a reminder that Australia’s heavy music underground is still producing bands worth making noise about.
Thirty years after forming in Wollongong, Segression are bringing it all back to where it began. And they’re bringing plenty of friends.
SEG FEST takes place at Waves, Wollongong, on Saturday 15 May 2027. The event is strictly 18+.
