A$AP Rocky is heading back Down Under. The Harlem rapper, fashion heavyweight and occasional Hollywood actor has confirmed his first Australian tour in eight years, bringing his Don’t Be Dumb World Tour to arenas across the country this December.
The Live Nation tour kicks off at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Saturday 5 December before heading to Sydney and Brisbane, wrapping up at Perth’s RAC Arena on Thursday 17 December. For Australian fans, it’s been a long wait to see one of hip hop’s most distinctive figures back onstage.
The announcement follows a sold-out 25-date European and UK run, where Rocky performed material from his fourth studio album DON’T BE DUMB alongside tracks spanning his career. The tour broke several regional records, including major arena milestones across Central and Eastern Europe.
Released eight years after 2018’s TESTING, DON’T BE DUMB marks a significant return to recording for the rapper born Rakim Mayers. Featuring artwork by filmmaker Tim Burton, the album boasts an eclectic guest list including Doechii, Tyler, The Creator, Gorillaz, Thundercat, Brent Faiyaz, Jessica Pratt and Danny Elfman. It’s an ambitious collection that reflects Rocky’s increasingly wide-ranging creative interests.
Since emerging in 2011, Rocky has accumulated more than 25 billion streams, with albums LONG.LIVE.A$AP and AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP both topping the Billboard 200. His influence now extends well beyond music, from fashion collaborations and his AWGE creative agency to acting roles in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest and Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
Never one to keep music and fashion separate, Rocky recently staged his SS27 AWGE fashion presentation at Paris’s Accor Arena, attracting 6,000 attendees before taking the stage for a sold-out concert that same evening.
Now the focus turns to Australia. With a new album, an extensive back catalogue and eight years since his last visit, Rocky’s return promises a major night for local hip hop fans.
