Swedish progressive metal heavyweights Soen have wasted no time making good on their promise to Australian fans, announcing rescheduled tour dates just four days after a family medical emergency forced them to postpone their long-awaited visit.
The band were checking in for their flights to Melbourne when the emergency struck, leaving them with no choice but to pull the plug on the shows. Rather than leave fans wondering, they recorded a video message at Stockholm Airport, promising to return as soon as possible.
And they’ve delivered. Soen have confirmed new dates, determined not to disappoint Australian fans who have waited more than a decade to see them.
Formed in Stockholm and featuring former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez, Soen have been making waves in progressive metal since their 2012 debut Cognitive. Drawing comparisons with Tool and Pink Floyd, they’ve carved out their own territory with crushing riffs, intricate arrangements and songs that pack a serious emotional punch.
Their live reputation is equally formidable, with performances that swing between delicate, atmospheric passages and full-throttle metal. It’s that combination of technical brilliance and raw feeling that has earned them a fiercely loyal international following.
For Australian fans, the wait has been long enough. The circumstances behind the postponement are unfortunate, but Soen’s determination to make these shows happen speaks volumes about their commitment to their audience.
