News: Stolen Days Release Self-Titled Debut Album

Stolen Days release their self-titled debut album, a ten-track collection that expands on the genre-blurring approach established by their opening releases. At the centre of the record is ‘No Need For Alarm’, the album’s third single, which brings together infectious bass licks, pulsing synths and a tightly locked kick-snare groove to create an immediate, propulsive backdrop for Alex’s assured vocal performance.

If the duo’s earlier material offered a glimpse of their creative range, the new album makes that diversity impossible to overlook. Rather than settling into a single genre or aesthetic, Stolen Days move freely between pop, hip-hop, trip-hop, indie and psychedelia, with each track adding another dimension to the record’s deliberately unpredictable character.

‘Under My Skin’ leans into pop songwriting while drawing on the production language of noughties hip-hop. Singable melodic lines, stabbing piano figures and cinematic strings give the track a polished, expansive quality, marking it out as one of the album’s more immediately commercial moments. Elsewhere, ‘The Room’ shifts effortlessly between the rhythmic vocabulary of 90s hip-hop and the hazier textures associated with Bristolian trip-hop.

The album’s deeper cuts reveal just how far that stylistic range extends. ‘Vicki’ adopts a neat mid-noughties indie-pop structure, while ‘Stolen Days’ heads in an entirely different direction, unfolding as a near three-minute excursion into sunlit psychedelia. ‘The Moment’ slows the pace for the record’s ballad, pairing heartfelt chorus melodies with brooding guitar work before the album reaches its two-part conclusion with ‘Faith Pt 1’ and ‘Faith Pt 2’.

Together, the closing tracks capture both sides of Stolen Days’ musical identity. ‘Faith Pt 1’ provides the kind of atmospheric soundtrack suited to a late-night drive, while ‘Faith Pt 2’ introduces more adventurous guitar work against subdued harmonies and layered ad-libs. The latter also offers a revealing insight into the album’s evolution from songwriting to finished production, with much of the closing track stripped back to little more than voice and piano or acoustic guitar.

That willingness to move between intimacy and experimentation sits at the heart of Stolen Days. Dub Sonata and Alex Fitts, known collectively as Stolen Days, have built their sound around genre-bending production, combining cut-up samples with the immediacy of an in-room band. Their influences span dream pop and hip-hop, but the duo leave plenty of space for experimentation rather than allowing those reference points to dictate the finished sound.

Both members bring substantial production experience to the project, having individually worked with artists including SZA, Kid Cudi, Sage Francis and R.A. the Rugged Man. As Stolen Days, however, the pair explore something more personal. The result is a record that feels vulnerable and cinematic while retaining the instinct for rhythmic detail and left-field production that runs through their wider work.

Following the foundations laid by ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Daydream’, the self-titled album presents a fuller picture of what Stolen Days can do. Across ten tracks, the duo balance sharp songwriting with intricate production, allowing songs to move naturally between styles without losing their identity. ‘No Need For Alarm’ provides an immediate entry point, but the album’s real strength lies in the journey that follows, where every stylistic turn feels like another part of the same creative experiment.
