The Mountain Goats will return to Australia and New Zealand in April 2026, their first shows in the region since 2017 and their first visit to New Zealand in 16 years. The tour will include stops in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland and Wellington.

The announcement comes alongside news of the band’s 24th studio album, Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan, due 7 November 2025 on Cadmean Dawn Records. The lead single, Armies Of The Lord, is out now.

Produced by band member Matt Douglas, the record is described as a full-scale musical, featuring contributions from The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson, harpist Mikaela Davis, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and new bassist Cameron Ralston. The album’s narrative follows three shipwrecked survivors on a desert island, blending survival tales with the group’s trademark lyrical detail and cathartic choruses.

The tour arrives as frontman John Darnielle continues a prolific run of projects, including a 20th-anniversary reissue of The Sunset Tree and his upcoming book This Year – 365 Songs Annotated: A Book of Days.

With a reputation for live shows that balance intensity, intimacy and unpredictability, The Mountain Goats’ 2026 dates are set to be a long-awaited reunion with fans across both countries.
