News: The Ramona Flowers announce EP and release new single ‘Hey You’

Fresh from a jam-packed Winter of touring supporting both Circa Waves and Reverend and the Makers, The Ramona Flowers are back with the announcement of their upcoming EP, Hey You, out 4th May, and the title track, out now via Distiller Records. Listen to the new single here and pre-save the EP here.

The 5 track EP, produced by Dimitri Tikovoi and engineered by Drew Bang, marks their first full release of 2023 and sees them draw a David Bowie influence to the songwriting, particularly ‘Let’s Dance’ with Hey You. The band note, “we were lucky enough to record the EP overlooking the sea in Devon, so the wild seas definitely influenced our vibes!  Hey You is about friends, lovers, parties, the fall outs and ultimately the wars that follow! It sums up the lives of The Ramona Flowers’ existence.”

The single is accompanied by the official video, which can be viewed below and sees the band perform the track in a darkened room full of neon lights. Written by the band, Hey You is about battling with the devil on your shoulder and the side of yourself that always prevails no matter how hard you try. Adding how that can lead to bad decisions but also how much fun that can be, the song is an upbeat, funky mix that’s already become a firm live favourite.

Speaking of the new track, the four-piece said, “Hey You wasn’t the easiest song to write. It was originally two separate melodies from two different songs put together but we always knew that it had something. So we persisted with it and finally one night after a few Guinness’s it finally clicked and it’s been a mainstay in our live show ever since”.

Hey You marks the beginning of an exciting year ahead for the four piece, made up of Steve Bird (vocals), Sam Dyson (guitar), Dave Betts (keyboards/guitar) and Ed Gallimore (drums). The new music follows their recent tour around the UK with Reverend and the Makers, their European tour in support of Circa Waves and last year’s release of their Gotta Get Home EP, which featured stand out single California. The Ramona Flowers are about to head out again to tour the U.S. as the support for Circa Waves. The dates kick off on 21st March with a show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles and conclude in Washington, DC at Union Stage.  The 10-day run also includes a stop in New York City at The Bowery Ballroom. They have more fun plans ahead too with headline dates across Europe and a UK tour to be announced in due course.

2022 was The Ramona Flowers’ most prolific year yet. Last year’s single, Up All Night featuring the legendary Nile Rogers had over 120 plays at alternative radio and charted at #25 in the top 40 New Music charts in the US, staying there for 4 weeks. They had a 10-date support slot with The Libertines on their Up The Bracket 20th Anniversary tour and performed at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. The band also toured the USA supporting Barns Courtney. Following support shows with Muse and Placebo at Firenze Rocks in Italy last summer, the group headlined a sold out show at Omeara in London.
