Rising alternative-pop artist Zëta Ræ has released her most confident and polished work yet with the new single ‘Obvious’, a shimmering burst of dance-pop energy that pairs tongue-in-cheek charm with sleek, radio-ready production.
The project, led by Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and producer Hannah Schmeling, showcases her signature fusion of genres – drawing on nostalgic elements of rock and soul while embracing the glossy edge of modern hyperpop and alt-pop. With ‘Obvious’, Zëta Ræ steps boldly into pure pop territory, crafting an irresistibly playful anthem that radiates confidence and fun.
“We wanted this song to be a crossover between Pretty Please by Dua Lipa and Greedy by Ariana Grande – and I think we nailed it,” says Schmeling. “At the time, I was writing a lot of emotional, alternative rock songs. Making a sassy, dance-pop track about a situationship was a total 180, but it was so much fun. It’s one of the quickest songs I’ve ever written – about an hour, in my bed. Even years later, it still makes me want to dance.”
Written and recorded during Schmeling’s time at Berklee College of Music, ‘Obvious’ represents a milestone in her creative journey as her first project made in a professional studio. The song was co-written and produced with Ryan Adams, who also played guitar, alongside bassist Max Troppe. Together, the trio built a track that pulses with attitude and polish, positioning Zëta Ræ alongside today’s pop powerhouses such as Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, and Sabrina Carpenter while maintaining a distinctive edge that is entirely her own.
At its core, ‘Obvious’ explores the thrilling tension between attraction and self-assured independence, channeling that moment when flirtation meets empowerment. The result is a vibrant, unapologetically confident pop anthem, one that invites listeners to dance, smile, and embrace their own sense of power.
