Premiere: Al Carr Finds His ‘Saving Grace’ in a Shimmering Jingle-Jangle Gem ahead of new album ‘Colour to the Flame’

We are very pleased to premiere the the new track ‘Saving Grace’ from Castlemaine’s  Al Carr, taken from his new album ‘Colour To The Flame’ due out in November.

‘Saving Grace’ features Carr’s distinctive vocals that channels a little Feargal Sharkey/The Undertones in its passionate delivery, coasting over shimmering jingle jangle guitars and an indelible melody that sticks like superglue. There is a touch of The Saints with its über cool insouciance and indie pop sensibilities.

Carr says of the track:

‘Saving Grace’ is a rumination on assuming one has the upper hand in a relationship only to realise that they were never in the driver’s seat, and in fact that is absolutely fine and perhaps was the key to the successful nature of the thing all along.

The backing woo-hoo vocals add a little filigree of gold and the track is infused with a deep yearning while a guitar solo soars in the ether.

‘Saving Grace’ is out tomorrow and can be downloaded and streamed via all the usual sites.

You can pre-order the new album through the link below.

Carr started playing in Sydney bands in the late 90s before a move to Melbourne in 2006 led to the start of a solo career that includes his 2013 self-titled EP (with guest appearances from Davey Lane (You Am I) and Louis Macklin (Jet)), followed by the albums Gutter Truth (2017), Empty Skies (2021), and most recently, the 2024 album The Right Dereliction.
