PREMIERE: Astrologer announces second EP for next month, shares sprawling lead track ‘Détente’

Last year, the Phoenix-based ‘avant-pop’ project Astrologer (led by Drew Cline) made their debut with the riveting Legerdemain (L) EP, and today they’re announcing the complementary 6-song set that makes up the band’s second release. It’s out next month, and to coincide with the announcement they’re sharing three-part lead track ‘Détente’, which features vocal contributions from Candy Caballero and ex-The Germs member Don Bolles.

Cline says of the song: “There was magic in the air when ‘Deténte’ was made. I had a cyclical guitar part and a verse that I was having trouble fleshing out, but knew it felt special. When Wyatt and I began recording it, we split the song into three basic movements and worked on each part in order, which helped to create a good juxtaposition. By the time we recorded vocals with Candy, Don, and our pal Brooke from Active Decay, it was a frenzy of creation, with all of us running in and out of the studio to put what ultimately became about 50 harmony vocal tracks! The beginning of the song was bolstered by the avant-garde sound collage contributions Don made. It really took the whole song to a new level.”

Get ready to trip out to the video, below, and stay tuned for Legerdemain (R), which arrives on Friday July 8th via Lolipop Records.
