Just in time for Halloween and the third in a triumvirate of devilish releases (following ‘Wolfman and ‘Jealous’), we are proud to premiere the new single ‘The Beast 666’ from the deliciously dark and gothic Matt Malone & the Holy Spirits.
It’s a dirty swampy bluesy blast with a 1000 yard stare and pocket full of trouble. A barbed wire guitar riff rumbles and roams with ominous intent while Malone’s vocals drip with disdain, a degree of sang froid and insouciance as his lyrics bleed with religious imagery. All ably assisted by an evil cowbell pattering in the ether:
I am The Light
Unto the New Aeon
And I bring The Light
To shine down upon this unholy world
And I rise as a Lord
And I rise as I Am The Lord
Malone has the ability to exude a dark gothic presence – a wild eyed preacher on the mount about to bring rain, hail and damnation to the appreciative and willing masses. A cultish evil that is oh so cathartic. The accompanying video is taken from Kenneth Anger’s Lucifer Rising, a grainy fuzzy piece filled with anxiety and brooding darkness. Open up your veins and let them feed on you:
‘The Beast 666’ is out on streaming platforms on 16 October and you can get it tomorrow on the band’s Bandcamp site. It was recorded with drummer James W. du Plessis, and produced by Loki Lockwood (Drones, Spencer P. Jones, Spooky Records).
You can join the Matt Malone & The Holy Spirits cult when they give birth to the bad seed on Saturday 17th October, 3pm, at The Tote in Melbourne, joined by the legendary Penny Ikinger (Wet Taxis, Sacred Cowboys, Deniz Tek, Kim Salmon, Charlie Owen) – details below. Get thee behind me!
