Premiere: Cable Street Collective reveal new track featuring Gregg Kofi Brown of Osibisa: ‘Speaking In Tongues’

We’re delighted to premiere the new single from London based 7-piece Cable Street Collective right here on Backseat Mafia here this morning. Titled ‘Speaking in Tongues’, the track features Gregg Kofi Brown from legendary Afro-rockers Osibisa, who also co-write the song.

Mixing up Afro rock, Soul and a good deal of sunshine, the track is this pulsating party record that’ll have you dancing with a smile on your face right from the off. Popping bass lines, layers of afrobeat percussion and these guitar riffs to die for, it’s goes for the kill with its addictive singalong chorus, with splashes of brass an added bonus.

Of the track, the band say, “Lyrically, it’s about what happens when relationships and trust – both personal and political – break down. Gregg suggested the chorus line, using speaking in tongues as a metaphor for talking at cross purposes. It conjured up images of individuals with entrenched, religiously-held views shouting at each other. That felt like a pretty good way to describe not just a break-up, but also the way the UK’s been led in recent years.”
