“FIDELITY” is the new single by the duo Pet Shimmers’ side project, Robbie and Mona.
Hailing from Bristol, Robbie & Mona is the pseudonym for the pairing of William Carkeet and Eleanor Gray, two members of the esteemed Pet Shimmers. It’s an outlet for their surreal, psychedelic pop, seemingly transmitted straight from a David Lynch fever dream.
“Fidelity” is a smart taste of hypnotic fare from an eerie film score, part stream of consciousness and part moody, melodic dreamscape. Watch the video, below.
Robbie reveals: “Mona recorded this a capella alone in an empty house – a freeing voice stretch, stream of consciousness-type thing.
“We didn’t mean for it to become a song but I sent it through a reel-to-reel and downtuned it multiple times, which gradually disintegrated the audio.
“Everything in the song, other than the bass, guitar and drums, is taken from these crumbling a capella samples.”
Taking on more a theatrical and filmic strain to their acapella bows, it’s the first taste of their album on the Spinny Nights label, with a release date to still be announced
