Premiere: Keep a lookout – the forecast is a dreamy ‘Tropical’ blast from Melbourne outfit Old Etiquettes

It is with great pleasure we bring you an early listen to the dreamy track ‘Tropical’ from Melbourne band Old Etiquettes. Propelled by smooth, silky and scything guitars. ‘Tropical’ has a driving insistence with distant, observational, yearning vocals that recalls the louche swagger of bands like Dinosaur Jnr.

The vast thunderous rhythms and anthemic choruses have the power and effect of waves crashing upon a shore, and the tone feels like an epic journey drenched in melancholia. Singer, songwriter and guitarist James Harrison says of the track:

This was a song we started playing live in 2017 as a track to eventually record. It felt like it flowed well, and has a bridge which always excited me! Joyous melancholy is how I’d probably describe the mood of the track

The track comes with an evocative video featuring footage of a New Zealand/Aotearoa road trip drenched in purple and green tropical colours as the camera passes through dramatic landscapes as a fulsome and beautiful accompaniment to the song:

‘Tropical’ is released on 2 June 2023 and available to stream and download through all the usual sites and through the link below:

James Harrison has of course graced these pages before with his solo work under the name Fleeting Persuasion. Old Etiquettes are:

Guitars/Vocals – James Harrison
Guitars – Craig Williams
Bass – Adrielle Spence
Drums – Martyn Richmond
