Premiere: Melbourne’s Luke Seymoup is a purveyor of indelible ‘Pop Songs’ – his effervescent and anthemic new track.

We are very honoured to premiere the new single ‘Pop Songs’ from Melbourne pop punk maestro Luke Seymoup – in which he basically achieves what the song sets out to do: writing a memorable pop song fit for the radio. With arching choruses and razor sharp melodies, this is a bright effervescent ride with Seymoup’s yearning vocals ringing out with an earnest and tongue-in-cheek delivery.

The desire for longevity and permanency in art is the fundamental theme, with a certain sense of bright-eyed innocence and boyish insouciance that typifies Seymoup’s songwriting:

Sitting here with pop songs in my head
Wishing I could write something so simple
Something that would live on past my death

There’s a genetic code of eighties post punk cheekiness in this single – touched with a wry sense of humour and a lilting pace that recalls Elvis Costello or Wreckless Eric:

‘Pop Songs’ is out on 15 December 2023 and will be available through all the usual download and streaming sites.

‘Pop Songs’ was recorded by Seymoup in his home studio, with drums tracked by Greg MacMillan at Echidna Studio (Tash Sultana). The song was mixed and mastered by Daniel Antix at Def Wolf Studios (Amends, The Whitlams, Genesis Owusu).
