PREMIERE: New Originals are in their feelings on emotive new single ‘So Sad’

They announced themselves last month with ‘Wasteland’ and a stellar supporting cast, but New Originals are hitting the ground running. The project of Dave Brandwein and Rob O’Block, the pair are joined here by Daru Jones and Danke on what serves as the second single from their forthcoming debut album. As the title implies, it’s a song you can dance and cry to. Maybe simultaneously if you want.

The song’s had quite a journey leading up to release, with Brandwein explaining further: “I remember I was still drinking pretty heavily during this time and I kinda just let it flow. There were some things I wanted to change later on, but it felt too representative of the time, so I left the lyrics and melody how they were and just added a new layer here along with Danke’s vocals in Los Angeles before bringing it to Nashville for Daru to record on. It’s like sober Dave is singing a duet with drunk Dave. It’s a very odd feeling. This song has traveled around a lot: Jon made the first layer in L.A; Rob layered over it in Nashville; Dave did vocals in NYC; Danke and Dave did overdubs in L.A; back to Nashville for Daru’s drums; [and] mixed back in L.A.”

With plenty more to come, now’s a good time to get on board. Tune in for the ‘So Sad’ video premiere below, and keep your eyes peeled for further New Originals developments soon.
