We are very pleased to provide you with an exclusive listen to the new single ‘Last Dance’ from Sunshine Coast punk rockers The Wolston Butchers, and it’s a veritable blast of pulse-quickening skate punk that dares you not to pogo on the spot. There are elements of iconic nineties bands like NOFX, Green Day or The Offspring with a thumping delivery and augmented by scaling choruses and an anthemic radiance.
Despite the joyous thump, the song deals with the pains of heartbreak. The band says of the track:
‘Last Dance’ is a break up song. We’ve all been there, knowing that something is over but still trying your best to keep it together even though it so clearly ended ages ago. I think it’s a story that just about anyone can relate to whether it be the end of an important friendship or romantic relationship. The song is about someone giving it their best go (fancy cars and luxury hotels) even though it’s blindingly obvious that it’s too little too late. It’s an upbeat song but don’t let the catchy hooks and pop vocals fool you. At the end of the day it’s a story of heartbreak and pain and the fear of having to choose the hard road that lies ahead.
It’s delivered with such joyous abandon you would have to lack a pulse not engage in an uncontrollable St. Vitus’s Dance with a smile you cannot wipe off your face:
The perfect cathartic panacea for a world that seems to be falling part. ‘Last Dance’ is released from the cage and into the wild on Friday, 6 March, and you can pre-save it here. The single was recorded with longtime producer and friend Troy Brady (The Amity Affliction) and is the first of a slew of singles set for release this year.
