Independent singer-songwriter Georgie Winchester has shared her new single ‘Dust & Salt’, the second preview of her forthcoming sophomore album of the same name, due this November. Following the release of ‘Crying In Private’, which Backseat Mafia praised for its heartfelt songwriting and emotional honesty, the Maitland artist continues to carve out a compelling voice within Australia’s alternative landscape.
Hailing from Wonnarua Country in Maitland, New South Wales, Winchester leans into a more stripped-back and reflective sound on Dust & Salt. Recorded at Dashville’s bush studio and supported by Dashville Community Records, the track was produced by Jack Nigro (Dune Rats, Skegss, DMA’S) alongside Christopher Dale (Melody Pool), pairing understated instrumentation with an intimate vocal performance that allows the songwriting to remain front and centre.
Written in the wake of leaving Newcastle and rebuilding her life after escaping a violent relationship, Dust & Saltexplores resilience through vivid storytelling rather than grand gestures. Built around a slightly detuned electric guitar and gradually unfolding arrangements, the single reflects Winchester’s return to the style of songwriting that first shaped her as an artist while laying the emotional foundation for the album that follows.
The release also marks the second of four singles leading into Dust & Salt, which arrives in November before Winchester embarks on a 16-date European tour spanning Italy, Hungary, Greece, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Winchester has steadily built her profile over recent years, sharing festival stages with G Flip, Troye Sivan and Glass Animals at Spilt Milk, while earning support from Australian and international publications and community radio for her previous releases.
With Dust & Salt, Georgie Winchester continues to demonstrate a songwriting approach built on emotional clarity and lived experience, offering another promising glimpse of what is shaping up to be a significant second album.
