Track: Graham Day & The Gaolers – Just a Little / I’m not the only one

December saw the return, after an eight year lay off, for Graham Day & The Gaolers, when they performed at the Lexington in Islington as part of the Damaged Goods labels 30 year celebrations. It marked a rare trip to the UK for drummer Dan Eletxro and so they decamped to the studio and recorded a couple of tracks – Just a Little and I’m not the only one which form a new 7″, released on (of course) the aforementioned Damaged Goods label on June 21st.

Just a little is a white soul banger. Full of 60s influences, there’s the Animals and The Who in there and Dave Davis’ early Kinks guitar sound, but it’s scuzzed up and frayed at the edges, even more than Dave could manage. Throw in a  straight between the eyes killer melody and you just wonder whats taken them eleven years to get things together.

On the flip is I’m not the only one, and this is much more of a Motown number, in the same way Town Called Malice is. It has all the hallmarks of a Soul Banger – from the Bass/Guitar riffs. to the torch song chorus to the vocal harmonies. It’s just all been kicked through this garage rock blender.

Whatever they do, Graham and the boys cannot leave it as long before they give us something else. Check out a little teaser of the track
