London and Edinburgh-based alt-pop artist Katherine Aly returns with her latest single, ‘SHOW NO PAIN [for the avoidant]’ – a sharp, self-assured take on emotional unavailability, heartbreak and reclaiming your power. The track continues Aly’s distinctive run of releases, each clocking in at exactly 2 minutes and 22 seconds and arriving on the 22nd of every second month, turning the series itself into part of her artistic identity.

On ‘SHOW NO PAIN’, Aly transforms the familiar territory of romantic disappointment into something altogether more defiant. Rather than dwelling on rejection, the track embraces the freedom that comes from recognising your own worth and refusing to chase someone who has already checked out emotionally. It is a song about absence as power, about knowing when to stop over-explaining, over-giving and carrying the emotional weight for two.

Sonically, Aly brings together her playful electronic sensibilities with a more pronounced R&B influence, creating a production that feels both immediate and experimental. Heavy bass sits beneath crunching drum machines, bubbling synths, fragmented samples and densely layered vocals, giving the track a textured, kinetic quality. Its pop instincts remain firmly intact, but they are pushed into more unconventional territory, allowing Aly’s alternative edge and distinctive production choices to take centre stage.

Speaking about the recording and inspiration behind the single, Katherine explains:

“Let’s unpack the toxic dance of emotional unavailability, shall we? He’s withdrawing, she’s got low self-worth, but the narrator’s voice flips the script: let him feel the omnipresence of your absence, girl!

Your strength lies in refusing to perform emotional labor for someone who won’t even try! ‘Show no pain’ is not surrender, it’s a checkmate; a textbook for how to deal with someone who is emotionally MIA.”

The track is a fitting introduction to Katherine Aly’s wider creative world: genre-fluid, visually distinctive and unafraid to approach relationships through a lens that is simultaneously humorous, analytical and emotionally direct. Known for her signature orange aesthetic and fearless storytelling, Aly has built a growing reputation for making alt-pop that feels as conceptually considered as it is musically unpredictable.
