With her latest single ICK, Melbourne’s Anya Alchemy delivers a glossy, fearless anthem that’s equal parts self-love manifesto and sharp social commentary.

Drawing on the energy of Doechii, the creativity of Tyler, The Creator, and the charisma of Miss Kannina, for inspiration, Anya Alchemy blends her signature tongue-in-cheek charm with sleek production. ICK dissects the absolute worst personality types with a biting edge, serving as a sparkling reminder that knowing your worth is the ultimate flex.

“ICK is all about not lowering your standards for losers. I work at a pub to help pay for my artist project and I regularly serve the same characters in their 20s and beyond. The types that don’t say please or thank you, the types that complain about the prices of steak. They’re the worst and I think that they deserve their own moment, in song form.”

Alchemy’s versatility and raw authenticity make her an artist impossible to ignore—one moment she’s playfully roasting toxic egos, the next, she’s commanding your attention with undeniable swagger.

Anya collaborated with her producer brother Jay Ferriere on ICK. Inspired by a spontaneous moment, the track originated from the line “Gap teeth, mean streak,” which Anya jotted down in her Notes app. That spark led to an all-night creative session with her brother, blending her love for words and melodies with his focus on beats and production. The result is a bold and distinctive song that Anya describes as unlike anything she’s written before.

The production process extended beyond the family dynamic, with mixing by Matt Bartlem (Matt Corby, Jarryd James) and mastering by GRAMMY-nominated Andrei Eremin (Tash Sultana, Sampa The Great). However, the core of ICK remained a family affair, fueled by the siblings’ shared passion for creating iconic music, despite their occasionally tumultuous creative dynamic.

Anya’s music spans indie pop, country, and hip-hop, her versatility shines through, from acoustic ballads to dynamic, high-energy tracks. In 2024, she has solidified her presence on the live circuit, performing at the Hello Sunshine Festival alongside major acts like The Veronicas and Grinspoon, and supporting artists such as Pierce Brothers and Boo Seeka.
