News: Retro Rock Royalty: The 5.6.7.8’s Will Tour Australia in March 2025

If rock ‘n’ roll had a time machine, it would sound like The 5.6.7.8’s. The Tokyo trio, equal parts retro cool and punk swagger, are bringing their timeless garage rock energy Down Under this March. With a career spanning nearly four decades, these Japanese icons are far more than just the “Woo Hoo” from Kill Bill Vol. 1 — they’re a living, shredding piece of rock history.

Formed in 1986 by sisters Yoshiko “Ronnie” Fujiyama (guitar/vocals) and Sachiko Fujiyama (drums), the band originally featured a rotating lineup before settling into their powerhouse trio with bassist Akiko Omo. Their sound channels a wild mix of ’50s rockabilly, ’60s surf rock, and gritty garage vibes, laced with their unmistakable Japanese twist. It’s a cocktail of kitsch, rebellion, and undeniable cool that has seen them outlast countless trends and carve out a cult following across the globe.

While Kill Bill propelled them into the mainstream spotlight in the early 2000s, The 5.6.7.8’s have always been more about underground authenticity than Hollywood gloss. Their albums, from the riotous self-titled The 5.6.7.8’s (1994) to the raucous Teenage Mojo Workout (2002), are masterclasses in rock ‘n’ roll revivalism, brimming with infectious energy and retro charm.

Their live shows are a full-throttle celebration of everything they stand for: unapologetic fun, vintage grit, and the kind of raw musicianship that feels like a sonic punch to the gut. And now, Australian fans are set to experience it firsthand.

Tour Dates:

Thursday, 20 March – Sydney @ Crowbar
Friday, 21 March – Brisbane @ Powerhouse
Saturday, 22 March – Beechworth @ The High Country Hop Festival
Sunday, 23 March – Hobart @ Alter Bar
Tuesday, 25 March – Melbourne @ The Tote
Tickets go on sale at 3 PM, Friday 13 December, via toshimaeda.com.au.

Don’t miss your chance to catch Tokyo’s fiercest retro queens in action!
