Glasswaves are building something considerably bigger than a collection of songs for their debut album. The Rochester, New York trio will release ‘while(True)’ on October 23 via SharpTone Records, bringing metalcore, dark pop, alternative rock and electronic music together inside a decidedly sinister sci-fi world.
The latest glimpse comes with ‘Swarm.ING_’, a track that pushes Noah Rich, Owen Miller and Brendan Curtis towards a heavier, nu-metal-influenced sound without abandoning the electronic textures and dark melodies that have defined Glasswaves so far.
There is an equally uncomfortable idea lurking underneath it. ‘Swarm.ING_’ deals with the sensation of something invading and consuming your thoughts, only for the source of that destruction to eventually reveal itself as you. That collision between external threat and internal damage feeds directly into the wider story behind ‘while(True)’.
And Glasswaves have gone deep on the story. The album centres around fictional medical technology company Liminal-Neuro, which is experimenting with a drug called Neuro Veil in an attempt to treat trauma, addiction and obsession. Predictably, things go spectacularly wrong.
The failed experiments summon an ancient female entity known as The Veil, which manifests the deepest desires of its subjects before manipulating them towards increasingly horrific ends. Rather than shutting the whole ethically catastrophic operation down, Liminal-Neuro’s lead doctor becomes determined to find the entity.
It gives Glasswaves a substantial narrative framework in which to explore trauma, addiction, perception, obsession and the forces that influence human behaviour. The fictional company also becomes a vehicle for examining a recognisably contemporary willingness to ignore consequences when technology, ambition and self-interest become involved.
Musically, the concept allows Glasswaves plenty of room to move. Cathartic metalcore collides with atmospheric hard rock and vulnerable dark pop, while the band pull inspiration from a particularly broad collection of artists including The Neighbourhood, Tame Impala, The Plot In You, Sace6 and Bring Me The Horizon.
Glasswaves assembled ‘while(True)’ throughout 2026 with producer Justin Spaulding, working between Atlanta and New York as well as remotely through Discord. For a band formed only in 2023, it is an ambitious first full-length, particularly after building their audience through a steady run of singles, an EP and touring.
The record also arrives at a moment when some of its science-fiction anxieties don’t feel especially distant. Glasswaves use Liminal-Neuro and The Veil to examine what happens when technological progress outruns ethical responsibility, with environmental concerns surrounding AI infrastructure among the real-world ideas feeding into the album.
That makes ‘while(True)’ more than an elaborate backdrop for heavy songs. Glasswaves are using their debut to construct an entire universe, then filling it with some very human weaknesses. ‘Swarm.ING_’ suggests the monsters inhabiting that universe may not be the ones you initially expect.
