Track: Nisa – The Saviour

Angela Ricciardi and Silken Weinberg

New York City-based artist, Nisa, will release her second EP, ‘Time To Plant Tears’ on December 2, 2021. This follows on from her self-released EP, Guilt Trip that arrived earlier this year.

Born to Albanian immigrants in the Bronx, Nisa (full name Nisa Lumaj) learned to speak Albanian before English and grew up listening to the traditional folk music of her parent’s native country. She started picking up on the Eagles as an introduction to the guitar, developing her own way of storytelling while referencing the likes of PJ Harvey, Björk and Radiohead as other key cornerstones to her approach.

In describing the mood of the EP, Nisa has said that the songs are centred around

“confrontation and focus; weathering internal and external changes; desire, and emotional rebirth.”

Smooth honeyed vocals over hypnotic guitar loops and steady drumming. A chorus that lights up with horns as the track takes shape ending in a glorious riot of noise and crashing cymbals. The track holds on to the delicate beauty it promises at the start even as it builds into an epic crescendo.
