See: BENEE releases rich and evocative video for the gorgeous track ‘Happen To Me’

The glorious track ‘Happen to Me’ comes off New Zealander artist BENEE‘s precociously refined debut album ‘Hey u x’ released last year: it is an atmospheric, moody single with Benee’s voice a soothing and yearning presence over the sparse instrumentation. The video has touches of gothic excess and opulence: a rich tapestry of indulgence with Benee’s painted doll face a perfect picture of sullen petulance imbued with enigma.

The lyrics reflect anxiety and uncertainty:

I understand why people leave
But leaving seems scary to me

I think about these things too much
My mind likes to wind itself up
And I don’t get a lot of sleep
Cause what if they happen to me

‘Happen To Me’ is ultimately a fantastic picture of modern day vulnerability and paranoia served well by the evocative video:
